Provenance
Presented to Bartholomew Schitt and Prudence Mercy Schitt upon their marriage in 1868, the Schitt Family Bible served for generations as the family’s principal record of births, marriages, and deaths.
Unlike many county records—which were occasionally misplaced, damaged, or otherwise rendered unavailable—the Bible remained in family possession and became one of the most reliable surviving records documenting the Schitt family lineage.
Following its preservation by later generations, the Bible was ultimately transferred to the Crock O. Schitt Historical Archives, where it was digitized to ensure its continued preservation for future generations.

Archivist’s Note:
Several additional register leaves were found folded beneath the rear lining of the Bible during preservation work. They appear to contain entries spanning multiple generations.
