Several loose notebook pages attributed to Deepa Aster Schitt were recovered among later family materials. The pages appear to span portions of her adolescence and early adulthood.

Most contain ordinary notes, abandoned schoolwork, doodles, names written repeatedly in various forms, and occasional observations concerning family members.

A disproportionate number concern her own name.

The Archives initially considered this unremarkable.

Further examination suggested otherwise.

ARCHIVAL OBSERVATION

The surviving pages document several forms of the subject’s name, including Deppa Aster Schitt, D. Aster Schitt, D. A. Schitt, Deepa Aster Schitt, and eventually Deep Schitt.

No surviving document establishes a formal date upon which one usage replaced another.

The progression appears instead to have occurred gradually.

Family recollections suggest Deppa remained in occasional use within the immediate family considerably longer than the notebook pages would indicate.

Her twin brother, Dip, reportedly continued using it whenever circumstances warranted irritating her.

This may explain several later entries concerning Dip.

Those records remain under review.

REGARDING “DEEP”

By the time of the later surviving notes, the shortened form Deep appears without explanation and with considerably less editorial resistance.

One entry simply concludes:

“Deep’ll do.”

Later family and Archive records overwhelmingly identify her as Deep.

No formal name-change document has been located.

Deep has been asked.

Deep considers the matter settled.

Researchers encountering records signed “D. A. Schitt” are advised that attribution should not be assumed solely from initials.
