Records, correspondence & observations from neighboring Shelby County
Little Schitt’s Crossing did not exist in isolation.
Commerce, marriage, work, travel, weather, newspapers, and occasional poor judgment carried people back and forth across the surrounding counties with some regularity.
The Archives has accumulated a small but growing collection of records originating in nearby Shelby County, Tennessee. Most concern ordinary families living ordinary lives and would have little reason to appear here at all.
Except that they do.
Brewer, Brown, Ernst, Hayes, Helvey, Erion and associated family records occasionally intersect with people and events already documented in the Little Schitt collections. Their accounts are generally straightforward, frequently useful, and not always consistent with what was recorded on this side of the county line.
The discrepancy is not necessarily cause for concern.
Records are records. Except when they’re wrong.
