The Amos & Rebecca Schitt Family Page

This eighteenth-century family register records Amos Schitt, Rebecca Schitt, and their daughter Opulence Schitt, better known within the family as “Fancy.”

The page records Amos and Rebecca’s marriage in 1752 and Fancy’s later marriage to Mathew David Talon in 1782, marking one of the early documented connections between the Schitt and Talon families.

The informal addition of “Fancy” beside Opulence’s birth entry is characteristic of the annotations found throughout the Bible, where formal family records and later family familiarity occasionally occupy the same page.

Opulence was apparently a perfectly acceptable name until the family started callin’ her Fancy. History has not recorded whether she approved. Family kept doin’ it anyway.
